CArrots
Poly CarrotsSuffolk's mild winters ensure that we are one of the first regions to produce 'Poly' carrots, starting at the beginning of june. Poly carrots are grown under polythene sheeting that acts as both an insulator and a mini greenhouse. this tricks the plant into thinking that it is warmer than it actually is and allows us to produce an earlier crop, thus again helping to reduce the need for imported carrots. WE harvest our poly carrots at night to ensure that they are lifted in the lowest possible temperatures - this helps to preserve the delicate skin. WE have a long term relationship with the Strawson family growing a key part of their supply. See below to learn More about Strawson's supply to Morrisons. |
Main Crop carrotsDue to our coastal location we are less likely to receive hard frosts in comparison to inland farming businesses. This allows us to grow maincrop processing carrots and removes the need for our farms to "straw" (insulate) crop. Removing a costly exercise helps us to be more reactive to customers needs at a lower cost base. Carrots grow best in fine, sandy soil - our farms produce the perfect environment! We use both top lifting and share lifting harvesting techniques and grow approxmately 7500t of carrots. We grow a bespoke processing crop for AG Pearce and have a strong historical relationship that ensures that both our businesses work in conjunction with each other to maximise crop freshness and quality. |
