RH & R Paul
The Broxtead Estate is 2,700 acres although only 1,200 acres is farmed; the remainder is carefully managed heathland and woodland. The entire farm is in HLS and has been farmed for 4 generations since 1912. Following the October 1987 hurricane, over 300,000 trees have been replanted to maintain the existing wooded areas. RH & R Paul has helped secure the future of the rare Silver Studded Blue Butterfly on Lowland Heath at Sutton, one of the most threatened habitats in Europe. This SSSI is also a valuable habitat to birds such as the Dartford Warbler, Nightjar and Woodlark. The farm prides itself on having over 200 rare breed sheep and Exmoor ponies that graze and maintain the rare heathland. Diversification on the farm includes holiday lets and even Teepees! |
